Financial Aid FAQs

Anyone may apply for financial aid. However, our applicant pool is highly talented and funds are limited, so financial aid decisions are based primarily on financial need in addition to student academics, conduct and leadership.
FACTS Grant & Aid financial aid information is available online and applications are accepted throughout the school year. Your financial aid application will be considered incomplete until you have submitted all requested documents by FACTS and those documents are verified.
The admissions process is need-blind, meaning that the committee is not aware of who has applied for financial aid when applicants are being considered. Applying for financial aid will not affect the outcome of a student’s admissions application
This is a direct grant from the Catholic Education Foundation within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Historically awards from CEF have been approximately $2,000 per child, based on financial need and meeting strict income guidelines. If you attend the on-campus, face-to-face interview (usually in November), you are notified on the spot at the end of the interview. If you apply via snail mail during Cycle II, the deadline is January 12th and you will be notified in April/May the following year.
To be eligible for financial aid at Damien High School, a family must complete a FACTS Grant & Aid application and demonstrate financial need based on criteria established by the school. FACTS will assess your family's calculated need. The assessment process will take up to three (3) weeks after your last document has been submitted. The Financial Aid Office at Damien will only re-review your application if you disagree with the FACTS Grant & Aid assessment. Final aid decisions are always based on the committee's assessment of an applicant's needs and the budgeted funds available. Unfortunately, there is always a greater demand for aid than there are resources. Information reviewed by the Financial Aid Office and discussions within the Tuition Assistance Committee are strictly confidential and restricted to the committee itself. Applicants that are eligible for financial aid may be denied due to budget constraints and will be placed on a waitlist. Financial Aid at Damien High School is awarded based on a family's demonstrated financial need. A GPA of 2.00 and good citizenship are requirements for financial aid and are considered by the Financial Aid Office when reviewing requests each year from students/families continuing at the school. All families awarded financial aid must sign a Financial Aid Agreement which delineates the school's expectations regarding a student's performance while attending the school.
Financial need is defined as the difference between tuition and fees at Damien High School and a family's ability to pay. Damien High School, through the FACTS calculation process, assesses the financial strength of each family by taking into account many factors. Major factors considered are income (both taxable and nontaxable) and expenses, assets (home equity, real estate, savings, etc.) and indebtedness, family size, and number of children attending tuition-charging schools or in full time day care. The FACTS standard calculation considers these factors and determines each family's effective income. Out of this income, a portion is protected for necessities. The remaining income is defined as discretionary income. A standard percentage of this discretionary income is allocated towards education. Financial assistance awards reflect the difference between this amount and the sum of tuition and fees.
The process takes approximately three (3) weeks, if a family has completed the entire FACTS Grant & Aid Application with documents uploaded and verified by FACTS.
The financial aid award will be posted 72 hours after your payment plan (FACTS Tuition Management) is setup and completed. If you are a new, incoming family, your award will be posted after your meeting with the financial aid office.
Students receiving financial aid are required to re-apply each year if continued financial aid is desired. In extending financial aid to a student and their family, Damien High School attempts to support the continued attendance of the student through graduation, pending satisfactory performance overall and continued financial need. If the family's financial ability to contribute to the student's education increases, the level of aid awarded will decrease accordingly.
Registration fees are an expense to you, the family. Financial aid does not cover the registration fee. The registration fee is split into two payments: $550 due the last week of April, and $400 over four months of school. In the case of divorced or separated parents, or parents that have never married, the school considers the income and assets of both parents, custodial as well as non-custodial, before making any award. Naturally, each separated or divorced case is unique and may require further clarification and communication with the Financial Aid Office.

Financial aid is based on financial need. Damien High School does not award financial aid for athletic or extracurricular activities performances.
