Leadership

Welcome to Damien High School, I am happy that you have found us and hope you will find information about who we are as Damien Spartans on this website.  Damien High School is celebrating our 60th year as an all boy Catholic high school, with tens of thousands of alumni, and we continue to serve our local community following in the footsteps of our founding religious order, The Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, and our namesake St. Damien of Moloka’i.

As a Damien alumnus, class of 1986, I can speak directly to the life lessons your son will receive here at Damien.  Damien is an all-boys college preparatory schools rooted in the foundations of the Catholic faith.  Through our rigorous academics, including courses in Theology, 27 Advanced Placement courses, 15 International Baccalaureate course, and our extracurricular programs; athletics, debate, robotics, sport medicine, and service opportunities, your sons will become men of “Service, Scholarship, and Faith”, who are prepared to engage a global society.  We are proud of our college placement with 98% of all Damien graduates attending colleges, 28% of these students attend out of state schools.

Damien men often speak of the Brotherhood we share as Spartans, a brotherhood that extends from the first graduating class to our incoming freshmen. A unique brotherhood that is formed in a learning environment that supports the individual and each person’s development academically, spiritually, and in leadership.  Together Spartans are called to support one another, support our local communities, develop faith through prayer and service and aspire to become the best person they are called by God to be as men of “Service, Scholarship and faith.”

Dear Members of the Damien Community,

I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve as your principal. As a Damien alumnus, I feel blessed by the opportunity to engage once again in the community and brotherhood that has characterized Damien for decades.

While much of our current reality is uncertain at the moment, I am nonetheless proud of our faculty and administration, who are fully committed to the mission of Catholic education and our success moving forward.

Given this commitment, I am confident that our work alongside students, parents, and alumni will ensure our continued growth and development as an institution defined by its Catholic identity, academic excellence, and extracurricular opportunities. We will continue our work in championing a culture of learning including a focus on student-centered instruction, our collective commitment to technology integration in the classroom, and the development of 21st-century skills. Equally important is the manner in which this experience also fosters a sense of community among students that is rooted in the spirit of St. Damien and his steadfast commitment to serving as a disciple of Christ.

Needless to say, I am proud to serve in a community that not only cultivates the gifts and talents of students but also instills in them a lifelong commitment to service, as embodied by the charism of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. With these sentiments, I offer my thanks and appreciation for your trust in Damien and our great educators. Our work together will undoubtedly ensure that Damien continues to thrive as a Catholic high school for many years to come.

Peace and Blessings,

Mike Castillo ‘00, Ed.D.
Principal
