Baseline League Honors Five Senior Student-Athletes

Story UpdateChase Travisano is the male scholar-athlete representative for the Baseline League at the Foothill Citrus Athletic Directors Association awards banquet. Each league honors one male and one female scholar athlete with significant accomplishments in academics, athletics, and community involvement.

The Baseline League honored five Damien High School student-athletes as the best and finest seniors at the annual Banquet and Recognition Ceremony hosted on Monday, April 24 at Etiwanda Gardens.

Recognized for their achievements in scholarship, school, leadership, community and sport were Isaiah Paige (Diamond Bar), Zachary Shinnick (Glendora), Ryan Tessier (Upland), Chasen Travisano (Glendora) and Andrew Walters (Pomona).

Paige, captain of the baseball team, is a four-year varsity member. He is a three-time Perfect Game Pre-Season All-American, two-time All-Baseline League, All-San Gabriel Valley and All-Inland Valley honoree. He was selected for the Michael Don Schneberger and Ron Federico scholarship awards. He volunteers with two foundations, Let It Be and Mike Spiers. The son of Roy and Laura, Isaiah has signed a letter of intent to the University of Michigan.

Shinnick, the son of Adam and Christy, is a four-year varsity member of the track and field team exceling in the sprint events (100, 200, 400). He was selected as the San Gabriel Valley Track & Field Athlete of the Year. One of the top runners in the nation, he will be attending the University of Southern California and compete for the Trojans. In the off-season, he has contributed over 100 hours of community service. 

Tessier, a team captain, is a four-year member of the varsity cross country team and track and field. An honor student, he has completed 13 Advancement Placement (AP) courses and is an AP Scholar. He is a two-year President of the Hiking Club and a three-year member of the Spartan Ambassador Program. The son of Terrence and Terri, Ryan has earned the honor of Eagle Scout.

Travisano is one of the nation’s top athletes. A four-year member and two-year captain of varsity water polo and three-year member and captain of varsity swim, he is in his sixth year as part of the USA Water Polo National Team. He is a four-time CIF-SS All-Divisional Team honoree and a CIF-SS Division II Swimming Champion. Out of the pool, he is involved with student government as the ASB Vice President. The son of Chris and Wendy, he has committed to UCLA.

Walters is a two-year varsity member and four-year participant of the golf and track and field programs. He is a two-year President and four-year member of the Damien Recycling Club. A four-year honor roll student, he will graduate in Damien first engineering class (Project Lead The Way). The son of Karen R. Walters volunteers for the Let It Be Foundation and as a tutoring assistant. He is a member of the National Honor Society and California Scholastic Federation.

The Baseline League is a high school athletic conference that is part of the CIF Southern Section (SS). The league is comprised of Chino Hills, Damien (La Verne, CA), Etiwanda (Rancho Cucamonga, CA), Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga, CA), Rancho Cucamonga, St. Lucy’s (Glendora, CA) and Upland.
