Spartans in the Community: Pennies for Patients

Damien High School recently participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Pennies for Patients” campaign. This fundraising effort supports the Society’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.

This year, Damien students collected change from students, parents, family, friends and visiting guests, over a three-week period, for a total of $1,800. Since Damien first participated in the campaign, students have made sure “every penny counts” by collecting and donating over $5,500.

Pennies for Patients improves the quality of life of patients and their families by paying for medicines, doctor visits, and other treatment-related expenses, in addition to help funding research. Since 1994, more than 10 million elementary, middle and high school students throughout the country have collected and donated millions of dollars, in pennies and other spare change.
