Welcome. My name is John Mahon and I have been a faculty member and golf coach here at Damien High School since 1991. Currently, I teach Chinese 1, 2, 3, and ESL for our first year international students, in addition to serving as International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Coordinator Designate.
I went to elementary school at St. Rita's in Sierra Madre and then continued my Catholic education here at Damien. After I graduated in 1984, I spent one year of college in the cold at the University of Illinois before deciding to transfer back to California. I graduated from Stanford University in 1989, after which I spent two years living and working in Taiwan. In 1991 I returned to the states and was offered a position on staff here at Damien. After a few years of teaching, I returned to school and obtained a Masters in Education from the University of La Verne. I have always loved teaching and coaching, and it has been both my pleasure and honor to spend these years serving the Damien Community.
The best way to reach me is through email. I cannot be contacted directly by phone during the school day, so leaving me a voice message will simply result in sending me an email that you left a voice message (which is essentially the same thing as sending me an email). If you need to speak with me, leave your phone number and tell me specifically that you would like to talk with me personally.
Also, if you need to meet with me in person, please do not just "show up" and expect that I am available. There is a strong chance I will not be. Please contact me directly to set an appointment.
Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to a exciting and productive school year!
