DAMIEN HIGH SCHOOL WINS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL DEBATE CHAMPIONSHIP |

Damien High School debaters Sean Hernandez and Reid Ehrlich-Quinn took first place in policy debate at the National Speech and Debate Tournament, sponsored by the National Forensic League, in Birmingham, Alabama, last Friday, June 19. The duo defeated a team from James Logan High School of Union City, California, in the championship debate, which was held at the Birmingham Convention Center in front of an audience of several hundred competitors and coaches.
200 debate teams from throughout the nation began competition on Monday, June 15. After 15 rounds of competition, spread over 4 days, 2 teams remained. The 2009 tournament marked the first time in the 71 year history of the event that 2 California teams had met for the championship. Damien is the first Southern California high school since 1973 to win the championship in policy debate. |

Class of 1969 Reunion |
|
Attention all 1969 PC, St. Lucy's and Damien Alumni: The Damien-Pomona Catholic-St. Lucy's 40th Class Reunion is scheduled for the weekend of October 17th, 2009. So far... Reunion activities include a Friday night football game in the newly renovated Spartan Stadium and after-game social, a bar-b-q and campus tour on Saturday afternoon, dinner-dance in the Damien Activities Center on Saturday night and a special Class of 1969 Reunion Mass in the Damien Chapel on Sunday morning. Summer School |

Registration for summer school closed Tuesday, June 23rd. Summer school runs five days a week for five weeks. There will be no school on Friday, July 3rd, in observance on Independence Day. Mid-term progress reports will be sent home on Wednesday, July 8th, and Finals are Friday, July 24th. Please do not hesitate to contact the school should you have any questions, and thank you for choosing Damien high school for your child's academic needs. |

January 29, 2009 Applications for tuition assistance for the 2009-2010 school year have been submitted to the Catholic Education Foundation of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for evaluation. As of today, families have been notified if you qualified for assistance Those qualifying received a letter directly from Catholic Education Foundation, others may have been put on a waiting list. Chuck Ballingall Wins Prestigious National Award |

The National Forensic League (NFL) is proud to announce that Mr. Chuck Ballingall of Damien High School in LaVerne, has been inducted into the National Forensic League Hall of Fame. To qualify for this prestigious national honor, an individual must devote at least 25 years of service to the NFL or be retired from the League. Since the inception of the Hall of Fame in 1978, only 144 members have been inducted. |
