2024 SUMMER SCHOOL TERM
June 17 - July 19
(No school on Wednesday, June 19, Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5)
PROGRESS REPORTS
Progress reports will be emailed the week of July 8.
CLASS CREDIT
Class Credit may not be given if a student is absent from a class for more than two (2) days. Please note: Requests for extended absences are not recommended, especially for those taking Advancement Courses. Please plan vacations or club sport activities around, not during, summer school.
DAILY SCHEDULE
Five-unit classes meet for two hours and five minutes. Ten-unit classes meet for four hours and ten minutes. All courses will have approximately 45 minutes of asynchronous work to be completed at home each school day.
Period 1: 8:00 -10:05
Break: 10:05 - 10:20
Period 2: 10:25 -12:30
All students must be present for Final Exams on Friday, July 19.
DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES
Disciplinary procedures can be found on pages 24-25 of the Damien Student-Parent Handbook. Any student dismissed from summer school for disciplinary reasons, or more than two days of absence, will forfeit tuition and class credit.

Regular Academic Year = Approximately 180 days
Summer School = 23 days
It follows that one summer school day is approximately equal to 8 days of the regular school year. Missing a week of school during the normal school year means missing only five days. During summer school, missing a week means missing approximately 40 school days (more than seven weeks) of the regular term. This is clearly excessive, and the reason why extended absences are not allowed during the summer term. Additionally, the rapid pace and intensive nature of coursework during summer school makes absences extremely difficult to manage, for both students and teachers.
Consequently, Damien High School permits students to miss no more than two (2) days of the summer term. Requests for extended absences are not recommended, especially for those taking Advancement Courses, and students missing more than 2 days may forfeit tuition and class credit.
