Within the time period that we are required to engage in distance learning, and during our initial return-to-campus protocols, Wednesdays will be dedicated as an asynchronous instructional day. Rest assured that while classes will not meet at designated times on Wednesdays, teachers will create and assign specific asynchronous learning activities. In turn, students will be expected to engage and complete these activities/assignments, which will range from a 30-45 minute time commitment per class. The intent of this day is to provide students and teachers with a degree of flexibility, which is an essential part of the planning and implementation required for distance and hybrid instruction. Specifically, Wednesday will be utilized for standing faculty professional development meetings (9:00-10:30 am) as well as various student activities and meetings including, but not limited to, course-specific tutoring, Christian Leadership, International Baccalaureate (DP/CP), Link Crew, Student Ambassadors, Spartan Regiment, and Robotics. Given the variety of activity designated for Wednesdays, and for the purpose of concise identification, we have designated Wednesdays with the label of “Salmagundi,” which means quite simply a general mixture or collection. We hope this unique characterization mirrors the special character and life of Damien as a whole.
