DAMIEN HS ESTABLISHES THE ROBERT A. SOUZA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

“It is expressions of generosity such as the Robert A. Souza Memorial Scholarship that enable us at Damien to live up to our mission to provide a quality, faith-based education in the Judeo-Christian tradition to students who otherwise would not have the chance of such enrichment,” said Fr. Peadar Cronin, President of Damien High School. “We are so thankful for the blessing of this holy giving; such generosity touches and enriches not only the student recipients of the scholarship, but also in turn, the Damien community and ‘departing bear their added riches in trust for mankind.’”

Mr. Souza was a former professional athlete, an avid sports fan and a father and grandfather to eight Catholic and parochial school athletes. His memorial scholarship has been made possible through the generosity of Shirley Souza, the Souza family, and family friends.

"Shirley and the Souza family have touched the Damien community with their generosity of spirit,” said Lisa Welch, Damien’s Director of Advancement. “Each student comes to us with a unique set of gifts and talents and now we will be able to offer more students the opportunity to become a Spartan for life with this scholarship."

The funds from this scholarship will be used to support students with financial need to help pay for expenses related to attending Damien High School, which may include tuition, athletic fees and/or student activity fees. Damien High School’s Scholarship Committee will select the recipient(s) each year.

Gifts in memory of Robert A. Souza may be made to the Robert A. Souza Memorial Scholarship. For more information, please contact Lisa Welch in Damien's Advancement Office at [email protected].
