Course Description

 This course is the advanced course to Intro to Sports Medicine. This elective is designed to extend your student’s knowledge they gained in Intro to Sports Medicine or Anatomy and Physiology to provide students with a hands-on introduction into the field of Athletic Training and Sports Medicine. Students will be introduced to various medical fields as well as learn hands-on skills to prepare them for a future in the medical world. Students also will be prepared and have the opportunity of competing in the NHSSM High School Sports Medicine Competition in the Spring Semester competing with schools from all over California and the west coast. This class will also prepare every student for an easy transition to a University Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP). It will include topics such as: General health, First aid, CPR, First Responder, Structural and Functional Anatomy, Taping and Wrapping Techniques, and Orthopedic assessment and treatment of many athletic injuries and illnesses. This course will also require laboratory hours outside of the classroom in the ATR after school.
