Damien High School Mourns the Loss of Mr. Tim Staples

The Damien High School community is devastated by the loss of a beloved and devoted member of our social science and English faculty, Mr. Tim Staples. On Saturday, December 14, 2019, Tim Staples lost his life while volunteering with the San Bernardino County Search and Rescue Team during efforts to find a missing hiker near Mt. Baldy. Mr. Staples was a nine year veteran Search and Rescue Team member.

Tim Staples was a newly-married faculty member and a Damien class of 2006 graduate. As a faculty member in social science and English, he was a favorite teacher among his students. Tim also coached cross country and track and field. He came to Damien after several years teaching at one of Damien’s sister schools, St. Lucy’s Priory High School in Glendora.

This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school family, especially our students. Our school will have a crisis intervention team of clergy and professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel. Damien High School has counselors available for any student who may need or want help or any type of assistance surrounding this loss. Any Damien family in need of support or additional information, is asked to contact the school.

We are deeply saddened by this loss and will make every effort to support our students, faculty, and alumni during this difficult time. We ask that our Spartan families and extended school community come together in prayer and support for Mr. Staples’ family.

There will be a prayer service on Monday, December 16th at 3:30 p.m. in the Event Center on the Damien campus. The community is invited to attend.
