IB Theory of Knowledge (Period 0)

Course Description

The IB Theory of Knowledge course is a mandatory part of the IB Diploma Programme.  Along with the Extended Essay and CAS (the Creativity, Activity and Service component), ToK comprises the "core" of the IBDP.  This class asks students to think about knowledge both critically and authoritatively, examining varies Ways of Knowing (WoKs) and the various Areas of Knowledge.  Students are asked to evaluate the validity of sources of information and to answer such basic questions as...

1.  How do I know what I claim to know?
2.  When is it the case that I can authoritatively say that I "know something?"
3.  How do I justify or disprove claims of knowledge.

In this day and age, when the meaning of "truth" has come under public scrutiny, this course aims to give students to tools to appropriately deal with information and develop useful and practical tools to understand "knowledge."
