Introduction to Visual Arts - 9, 10, 11, 12
This course introduces the student to the principles and elements of art. Students will discuss, experience and develop creative ideas, images and aesthetic values. Conceptual visualization and creative expression is stressed through the use of various art media and studio experiences. Art styles and historic art movement will be explored.
Design - 9, 10, 11, 12
This course is an introduction into the career fields of graphic art, with an emphasis on the principles and elements of design. Discussion and experiences in computer graphics, style, image development, special effects, cartooning and multi media technology with commercial applications.
Advanced Art/Design - 10, 11, 12 - 5 Days
Pre-requisite: Completion of Art or Design with a "B" average.
Advanced studies of the visual arts through individual projects in contemporary art media. Students will be intoduced to Sculpturing, Painting, Cartooning and Graphic Designing. Discussions will be held on the role of the artist in society, and the need for a quality portfolio. Design students will study advertising, multimedia, and software application. (On approval, students may prepare and submit a portfolio for AP credit).
Art History 9, 10, 11, 12
This course is an historical survey of the visual arts. Students will learn of art as it evolved through time, discuss its meaning and value, and experience art through visual presentation.

Introduction to Computer Science 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: None
An introductory class to computers and computer programming. Designed to be the student's first in-depth contact with computers, this class teaches programming and problem solving in the BASIC language.
Computer Literacy 9,10,11,12
This course gives students the opportunity to learn about word processing, spreadsheet and database application programming using the Microsoft Office 2000 Suite (Word, Excel, Access, & Powerpoint).
Computer Systems & Applications 9,10,11,12
This course gives students the opportunity to learn about the hardware of computers. Students will take apart, repair, reassemble and troubleshoot computers and learn more about how computers work.
Internet/Web Authoring & Design 10,11,12
Prerequisite: A passing grade in a previous Computer Science course
This class covers many aspects of the Internet and authoring on the web, from networking to netiquette. It will introduce the HTML programming language and use Microsoft FrontPage 2000 to create web pages and web sites. An important part of this course will be the web design process and the types of web sites found on the Internet. Web page and web site design projects will be undertaken the second half of the course and posted to the Damien Web Site.
C++ Computer Programming
Prerequisite: A passing grade in a previous Computer Science course
This class covers the C++ programming lanuage. Students will end the semester programming their own text-based game.
Band 9, 10, 11, 12

A performance course designed to build on basic knowledge of music for students interested in increasing proficiency in music. (Instrumental experience required).
Beginning/Advanced Chorus 9,10,11,12 - 5 Days
Audition required (most beginners accepted), Required to perform at all school Masses, Attendance at after-school performances and tours required (TBA)
Courses for singers to develop skills in, and appreciation of, vocal music literature. Performances include Damien liturgies and other community activities.
Beginning Photography 10, 11, 12 - Tandem, 5 Days
Prerequisite: ownership of or access to a 35mm camera ($50.00 lab fee required)
This is a course in basic fundamentals of black and white photography, including camera manipulation and darkroom techniques.
Advanced Photography - 10, 11, 12 - Tandem
Prerequisite: Beginning Photography and a 35 mm. camera with interchangeable lenses ($50.00 lab fee required)
A continuation of black and white photography with emphasis on use of varied lenses, filters, and special effects. The second semester will include an introduction to color photography.
Film History and Appreciation - 11, 12
This course focuses on motion pictures as an art form and as a mass communication medium. Students explore film as a tool for developing plot, theme, tone, and characterization. The course also presents examples of film used for the purposes of both propaganda and intellectual understanding. Screenings serve as a basis for lectures, group discussions, and critical writing.
Physical Education 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: approval of Athletic Director. Varsity athletes are not eligible to enroll in this course
Any student not enrolled in P.E. and participating in a school approved sport may receive credit in the following instances:
- If the student completes the season in a sport
- If the student is incapacitated by reason of injury and regularly reports to the coach of the sport and the Assistant Principal-Activities
Journalism 10, 11, 12 - 5 Days
Prerequisite: recommendation of present English teacher, sample of writing, and instructor approval
This is a course in practical journalism. The major project of the students in this class will be the production of the Damien High School newspaper, The Laconian. The newspaper advisor must approve all students electing to take this course. Students must get an application for the course from the advisor.
Yearbook 10, It, 12 - 5 Days
Prerequisite: Teacher approval
The primary purpose of the yearbook class is the production of Damien's yearbook, The Spartiate. The student will be expected to learn the basics of photography, lay-out and copy write-up. Students must get an application for the course from the advisor. (Requires some after school work)
Music History 9, 10, 11, 12
Introduction to the elements of music. Survey of stylistic periods of Western music in their historical setting, illustrated by musical examples. Survey of contemporary, jazz, and rock styles are also studied, Course will include performances by visiting artists. Field trip included.
Introduction to Business 10, 11, 12 - 5 days
A course introducing students to the many facets of business. Areas covered include accounting, finance, marketing, management, and international business.
