Catholic leader blesses school center E-mail
Original Article by The Daily Bulletin

Cardinal Roger Mahony blessed the Travers Cronin Athletic Center during a special ceremony at Damien High School Friday night.

The center, on the campus of the Catholic boys' high school in La Verne, is comprised of a gym, two offices and a conference room.

It took nearly seven years to get approval for the building, and construction has taken a year and a half, school officials said.

The center is named after two veteran teachers at the school -- Father Patrick Travers, who teaches math, and Father Peadar Cronin, who teaches English.

These season-long attributes were exemplified for the final time Saturday as the Spartans, playing without co-captain and leading scorer Greg Garcia, settled for a co-championship after battling to a 0-0 draw with Santa Margarita in the CIF-Southern Section Division I title match at Warren High School.

Fresquez and his players are well aware of what it takes to prepare for the CIF-Southern Section Division I finals against Santa Margarita today at 10 a.m. at Warren High School in Downey.

After all, the Spartans are the defending champs.
