LA VERNE - Damien opened its 2006 season successfully, rolling past Riverside Poly
32-10 on Friday night.
The Spartans took command early with eight minutes left in the first
quarter. After a series of first downs by wide receiver Travis Eschardies,
fullback Marcus Williams and running back Chris Marine, quarterback Mark Mendrun scored
on a five-yard keeper, giving the Spartans
a 6-0 lead.
On his first pass of the game, Riverside Poly's Ryan Nordbeck was picked
off by Trevor Stokes. Three plays later, the speedy Williams ran it in from 18 yards
out, bringing the score to 12-0.
The Bears continued to struggle on offense on their next series and were forced to
punt. |
