Glendora scores 9 in eighth, but Damien wins with 10
From staff reports

It was one for the ages.

Ray Ortega's three-run, inside-the-park home run capped an incredible 10-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning as Damien defeated archrival Glendora 13-12 on Friday in a Sierra League opener for both teams.

The longtime league foes were tied 3-3 after seven innings when the Tartans (4-2, 0-1) scored nine times in the top of the eighth, appearing to grab an extra-innings victory with their offensive outburst.

But the Spartans (4-1, 1-0) responded with a bigger bang, scoring seven of their ten runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth.

Alumni & Parent Business Listings E-mail
We have recently added an Alumni/Parent Business Directory on the Damien website. The intent is to allow fellow Spartans to promote their own businesses as well as find members of the Spartan community to do business with.

To add your business you will need to login to the Damien website by going to http://www.damien-hs.edu and logging in with the same username and password you used when you registered on the alumni forum. If you have never registered on the alumni forum, you will need to click here http://www.damien-hs.edu/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=404&action=register to register. The login is on the bottom left of the main page on the website.

Then you can click on Business Directory and then click Add Entry at the top.

If you feel we need to add more categories, or have any other questions/suggestions, please email dominic@damien-hs.edu.  We are still customizing the directory design.

If you have forgotten your username or password click: http://www.damien-hs.edu/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=404&action=reminder and enter your email address to retrieve it.

A doctor, a priest and a prisoner E-mail
Original by The LA Times

For centuries, the gruesome disease once known as leprosy separated husbands from wives and parents from children.

The sick — missing digits and limbs, their faces swollen and disfigured, their oozing sores emitting a putrid smell — were exiled to isolated colonies and often left to die. But in a single year toward the end of the 19th century, the acts of a Norwegian doctor and a Belgian priest slowly began to redirect the fates of leprosy patients around the world.

Some of the most notable changes in the plight of the leprous originated in colonial Hawaii. The patients there had been banished to the island of Molokai, chosen for its steep cliffs. Living in shacks and caves with little food and undrinkable water, no medical care and no contact with the outside world, Hawaii's "lepers" were no different from others all over the globe.

By Jeff Tolcher Correspondent

AZUSA - Damien High senior Griffin Ramme scored 24 points to lead the Spartans to a 52-41 win over Bishop Amat at the Southern California Shootout on Saturday at Azusa Pacific.

Damien improved to 20-4 and is approaching the single-season school record for wins (22) set back in 1981.

Damien got off to a slow start in the first quarter in shooting 2 of 13 from the field, but the game was tied at 8-8.

The Spartans ran off 13 consecutive points in the second quarter, in which they sank 9 of 11 shots, and out-scored Bishop Amat 19-2 to lead 27-10 at the half.

GLENDORA - Nothing could validate the Damien High School boys basketball team's breakout season quite like a win at Glendora. After Wednesday's night performance by the Spartans, consider it validated.
"We've had our share of adversity," LeDuc said. "But it's not an excuse."
