Spartans in the Community

As every past and present Spartan will tell you, we are proud of our history of Christian service. Spartans are empowered to take responsibility and be servant-leaders, they will learn how to nurture relationships, encourage hope, transform lives, and help build a better community.

“Damien provides the foundation from which will emerge the truly confident and integrated Christian who will actively and courageously participate in the life of the world”- Rev. Peadar Cronin, SS.CC.

During this “season of giving,” we would like to thank a few people for making a difference.

Stephen Patten, Coordinator of Christian Service, who has been guiding our Spartan men in the St. Vincent de Paul Holiday Food Drive, the Sowing Seeds for Life 8th Annual Toy Drive and Project Homeless Connect. For the food drive, Spartans collect canned and dry goods to help families who cannot afford a meal. The toy drive provides gifts for boys and girls 12 and under, who otherwise would have no gift for Christmas. Project Homeless Connect provides homeless people with access to housing, clothing and much needed services.

Christy Amhrein, Director of Student Activities, for getting teachers involved with the No Shave November fundraising campaign. All proceeds support Megan's Wings, which provides assistance to families with children who have cancer. A special thank you to teachers Nick Curci, Jason Corella, Dylan Freude, Steven Jasso and Chris Arbizu who forgo shaving to bring awareness to cancer prevention, save lives and aid those fighting cancer.

Jessica Truax, the Director of Sports Medicine, led a group of Sports Medicine students at the Pomona Valley Hospital Holiday Half Marathon and 5K. The Spartan men volunteered to be on the first aid medical team. Each year, this event helps support Toys for Tots and the Boys & Girls Club.

Thank you to St. Monica’s Guild, Athletic Boosters and the many parents and friends of Damien who donate their time and helping hands to support athletic events, clubs, academic programs, community service projects and the hundreds of student activities throughout the year.

Thank you to all Spartans, faculty and staff who support all service projects throughout the year.

And a special thank you to Mr. Patten for providing opportunities and being a positive influence to our Spartan men.
